Call 912
The telephone number 912 is destined only for emergency medical assistance provided by the ambulance service.

What can be considered an emergency call?

The need for ambulance service can be justified for example in case the life of one or more persons is in danger. Such cases can be: a heart attack, cerebral hemorrhage, low or high sugar level, serious car accident or other types of accidents with severe injuries etc.

When calling 912 the dispatcher on duty will ask some key questions. It’s important to answer these questions as short, honest and precise possible.
The first information that must be provided is your telephone number and address. Inquiries will also be made concerning the nature of the call, the medical history and records of the person for whom the medical assistance is needed. e.g. is this person taking any medication and if yes, the types and or names of the medication being taken.
Questions will also be asked about the condition of the person, e.g. is he/she perspiring and feeling cold, having chest pain, unconscious, how he or she is breathing etc.
You will also be asked for the age and gender of the person.

After having received the answers to these questions, the dispatcher will determine the category of emergency.

A-Emergency: situations in which a person’s life is in danger. For that reason it is important to answer as short and precise as possible in order to dispatch an ambulance as soon as possible. The ambulance will be driven with active sirens and blue flashing lights. Under normal circumstances the ambulance must arrive on location within 15 minutes of the call. It’s very important that other people trafficking the streets give right of way to the ambulance(s) so the patient/victim(s) can receive medical assistance as soon as possible.

B-Emergency: situations in which the person’s life is not in immediate danger, but medical assistance should be received as soon as possible. Under normal circumstances the ambulance must arrive within 30 minutes. The ambulance will not be driven with sirens on, or with blue flashing lights.

C-Emergency: situations where there is no emergency, but ambulance assistance is needed and can be ordered in advance, e.g. if an elderly person has to be transported lying down and under medical guidance / assistance on board, to a hospital or other medical institution.

The ambulance should be able to leave right away after dispatched and reach its destination as soon as possible. Therefore the full cooperation of every one is required.

Please take into account that not every call for ambulance assistance can be granted. Every case will be evaluated individually by the dispatcher. One might be referred to a GP. An ambulance will not be dispatched for symptoms such as regular stomach aches, vomiting, colds or flu. For those cases we recommend you call or visit your GP or the one on duty.

It is always possible to call 912 for information regarding an illness or medical emergency. The CEMS dispatcher on duty can provide you advice in certain situations. It is recommended that you follow this advice.
